School-wide Digital Bulletin Board

In the fall of 2016, I was given the responsibility of the school-wide Character Development Program. Previous to my arrival the Character Development Program consisted of a hallway bulletin board and a monthly assembly. The assemblies involved the entire student population seated in the gym with one or two teachers and their students presenting the monthly character trait. The educators found this format to be disconnected from classroom instruction and student experiences.
As a school, we decided to cease these assemblies and the teachers stated that they would weave each monthly character trait into their instruction. My responsibility was to change the hallway bulletin board once a month. The bulletin boards had student work, professional reading/s for teachers, as well as photographs of students demonstrating the monthly trait.
The hallway bulletin board was seen by a small group students because most children did not walk by that area of the school. I wondered how I could create school-wide participation with each monthly character trait? Using an app like Linoit.com for our school's digital bulletin board would allow all students to view and potentially post their ideas, creations, and response to each month's focus. After two months of paper bulletin boards, I added digital bulletin boards for every character trait, shared the linoits with all teachers, and encouraged them to upload videos, images, and student work.
